Our Story

A home we built by hand, on five wooded acres.

We’ve lived on the Mendocino Coast for almost fifty years, and raised our family here.

On our five secluded acres—just ten minutes from Mendocino Village or Fort Bragg—we built our home, the cottage, Bob’s woodworking shop, and Diane’s art studio. The cottage offers privacy and tranquility, nestled among trees and a garden.

The grounds

A garden, a greenhouse, and two working studios.

We keep a vegetable, flower and fruit-tree garden and a greenhouse on the property, and guests are welcome to wander freely. You’re welcome in our art studios, too — this is a working home as much as a place to stay.

Your hosts

Hosted personally,
start to finish.

When you book Caspar Cottage you’re booking with us — not a management company. We meet our guests, we know the trails and the tides, and we’re around if you need anything. It’s the part of hosting we love, and the reason we’d rather you booked direct.

“Let us know if you’re celebrating something. It’s all about hospitality.”

Diane’s art studio

A working studio,
and an open door.

Diane creates ceramic sculpture in her studio and dabbles in watercolor, painting, and photography. Guests are always welcome to visit. See work in progress, talk about the coast that inspires it, or look around.

The Mendocino Coast has drawn artists for generations. Staying here puts you inside that tradition, not just near it.

Bob’s wood shop

The shop that built
the cottage.

Bob built the cottage by hand. The custom kitchen cabinetry, the trim, and the details you’ll live with during your stay all came out of his woodworking shop on the property.

The shop is still a working one. If the doors are open and you’re curious, say hello.
